Educate Yourself in Stock Trading
Successful stock trading starts with knowledge, discipline,
and risk managementโnot with trying to predict every price move.
๐ 1. Learn the basics: Understand:
Stocks, exchanges, indices, ETFs and mutual funds.
Market orders vs. limit orders.
Bid, ask, spread and liquidity.
Brokerage and transaction costs.
Delivery investing vs. intraday trading.
๐ 2. Learn fundamental analysis: Study a company's:
Revenue and profit growth.
Earnings per share (EPS).
Debt and cash flow.
Return on equity (ROE).
Valuation ratios such as P/E and P/B.
Competitive position and industry outlook.
๐ 3. Learn technical analysis. Understand:
Support and resistance, Trends, Moving averages,
Volume, Candlestick patterns, RSI and other indicators.
Use indicators as tools, not as guarantees of future prices.
๐ก๏ธ 4. Master risk management: Before entering a trade, decide:
Entry price, Stop-loss level, Target or exit conditions,
Maximum amount you are willing to lose, Position size.
Protecting capital is more important than chasing profits.
๐ง 5. Control emotions:
Avoid: FOMO buying, Revenge trading, Overtrading, Panic selling,
Averaging down blindly, Following social-media tips without research,
๐ 6. Keep a trading journal. Record every trade:
Reason for entry โ entry price โ position size โ stop-loss โ exit โ
profit/loss โ lesson learned.
After 20โ50 trades, review the journal to identify recurring mistakes and strengths.
๐ฏ 7. Practice before risking large amounts: Start with paper trading or very
small positions while learning. Gradually increase your exposure only after you
have a consistent process.
๐ฎ๐ณ 8. Learn the Indian market: For India, become familiar with NSE, BSE, SEBI,
corporate announcements, quarterly results, taxation, brokerage charges and
applicable trading rules.
Simple learning path: Basics โ Fundamental Analysis โ Technical Analysis โ
Risk Management โ Trading Psychology โ Paper Trading โ
Small Positions โ Continuous Review.
The goal is not to know every stock. The goal is to develop a repeatable process
for making and managing trading decisions.
